At the society’s members’ night, held on 11 May 2023, Dr Mike Keen was elected as an honorary member of the society. The society’s constitution defines an honorary member as follows:
Honorary Members shall be persons distinguished for their attainments in Geology or
the allied sciences, or distinguished by their service and contribution to the objects of
this Society. Their number shall be restricted to six at any one time. They shall enjoy
the same rights and privileges as Ordinary Members but are not liable for any
subscription payments.
Mike was proposed as an honorary member in recognition of his outstanding work over many years in making geology available to the wider public in the west of Scotland, both through providing numerous adult education courses (starting in 1971) and leading study tours abroad. The proposal was unanimously approved at the meeting.
