The area around Lochranza displays a variety of interesting geological formations: Dalradian schists along the coast to the east and west of the village, Hutton's classic unconformity at Newton Point and Permian sandstones and breccias at the Cock of Arran.
An excursion itinerary for this site, prepared by J.G. MacDonald in 2015, can be found here.
