Hugh Miller (1802-1856) was a prolific nature writer who famously explored Scotland's landscapes and the geology that makes them special. This writing competition seeks to celebrate Scotland’s more recent fossil finds and their geological and landscape context.
The competition is organised by the Scottish Geodiversity Forum, The Friends of Hugh Miller and a range of other partners and invites writing inspired by fossil discoveries in Scotland over the past 30 years. Competition entries from under 16s as well as from older enthusiasts (i.e. over 16s) are invited. There is no charge for entry. The writing is to be inspired by Scotland’s rich fossil heritage and could take several different forms, for example, non-fiction, fiction or poetry. There are some interesting prizes on offer!
